Building Relationships, Commitment, And Love - Continuing With S

We continue our series on how to build interpersonal relationships, whether with family, coworkers, friends, or that special someone...

Commitment and love are important to all of us; they are worth fighting for; they are worth working for. You also should know that in spite of many promises there is no secret for success, no checklist of things to do, and just as importantly no checklist of things not to do. But we do have suggestions, now continuing with the letter S. We actually have a double series of articles for the letter S. The focus here is on smile, study, and suggest.

S is for smile. There is nothing like a smile. Sometimes a smile can get you out of a very tricky situation. I suppose that a misplaced smile could get you into a tricky situation as well. People might think that you are laughing at them. But more often a smile is seen as an act of solidarity, as if to say, you and me are in this together. And it’s international. I dare say most cultures recognize the smile as a conciliatory gesture. Don’t go overboard. Don’t start laughing your head off. Or in some dangerous areas you may end up with a grin that goes from ear to ear. And as far as I’m concerned don’t put smileys on your e-mails, except when writing to young children.

Smile, smile, smile in love en amour

I think she knows something.

S is for study. There is always more to learn. And in some ways studying has never been easier. You can always get started by looking up the subject, any subject in Google. There’s a good chance that Wikipedia will have something on your subject of interest. Go on from there. Be sure to check out multiple sources even if the subject is not controversial. Deepen and broaden your knowledge. You may even want to take a course. In the old days you would have to find a school within a reasonable distance from your home and the class would have to fit into your schedule. Today you can take virtually anything on-line. The state of California allows on-line law school graduates to take the bar exam. Candidates who pass are entitled to practice law. I’d have to do some research to find out how often this unlikely situation occurs.

Start study habits young in love en amour

A little homework never hurt anybody.

S is for suggest. Don’t just accept the status quo. Suggest how to better the present situation. Nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. A seemingly minor change can vastly improve your product’s perception in the marketplace. If your company doesn’t have a policy for considering and rewarding suggestions it should. When you think about it, why would an outside consulting firm that may know nothing about your line of business know better how to improve operations than those people who have been performing said operations year in and year out? Those who make suggestions leading to increased profits should get part of the increase. That’s my humble suggestion.
